Art Overview (Grades 9-12) Introductory Prerequisite
Art Overview is the required foundation class for all other CHS art classes. Students will study the basic fundamentals of drawing, painting, printmaking, and ceramics, how to apply the elements and the principles of design, color theory and art history/art appreciation. Art Overview is offered fall semester only and is worth a half credit.
2D Art (Grades 9-12)
This is a one semester course, offered both semesters. The study of 2D Art includes more advanced techniques of artwork in the areas of drawing, painting, airbrush, graphic design, printmaking, art history and art appreciation. Open to all grades, each semester is worth a half credit. students may repeat this course. (Art Overview is required as a prerequisite.)
3D Art (Grades 9-12)
This is a one semester course, offered both semesters. The study of 3D Art includes working with a variety of materials and techniques in the process of making three dimensional objects and sculpture. Main emphasis of the course is ceramic techniques using clay, including the hand building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab pottery techniques and throwing on the potters wheel. Sculpture techniques are also explored and vary in media such as: paper, wire, metals, and plaster. Art history and art appreciation are explored in the areas of three dimensonal art. Open to all grades, each semester is worth a half credit. Students may repeat this course. (Art Overview is required as a prerequisite.)
T-Works Design (Grade 11)
T-Works, a design and screen printing class and non-profit business at CHS, is run by the graphic design class. T-works Students design and print t-shirts for various school groups and public organizations. Students learn all aspects of the business from design,production,shop maintenance, quality control, billing, budgeting, public relations, advertising, and correspondence skills. Proceeds from the business help to fund scholarships towards post high school education for T-Works graduating seniors. T-Works is set up in a two-hour block for Juniors and Seniors. Students are only admitted by prior permission from the instructor. Class space is usually limited to 8-9 students (Art Overview and 2-D Art are required as prerequisites. Instructor permission required for enrollment.)
