- Available to current high school seniors and all college students who are dependents of active DS&O members. The scholarships are also available to active DS&O members currently enrolled in college.
- If a member is applying for himself or herself, then such member must be in good standing with the cooperative for at least 12 consecutive months. Good standing is defined as “a member that has paid all bills to the cooperative for which they are legally responsible or liable for the most recent 12 months without having been issued more than two disconnect notices.” This good standing requirement does not apply to dependents of active DS&O members.
- Must currently be a student at or be entering an accredited university, college, or vocational school in Kansas.
- Scholarships are for one year. Applicant may apply as often as desired, but may only receive a DS&O scholarship once.

Legacy Award, Elks National Foundation
- For the 2024 contest, any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2021, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2021, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2024. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
- The applicant must be a high school senior.
- The applicant must apply online only. The 2024 Legacy Awards application deadline is February 5, 2024, 11:59 a.m. Pacific Time.
- If the applicant’s parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent’s Elks Lodge.
- We have waived the standardized test requirement for the 2024 Legacy contest. You do not need to submit ACT and/or SAT scores.
- Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student wins more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value. Students can accept local and state scholarships, which are separate from the awards at the national level.
- Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)

This scholarship is intended to assist students seeking higher education in the agricultural field. Applicants must be a graduate of any Dickinson County high school, Dickinson County homeschool, or a Dickinson County GED recipient, who has completed their freshman year of college, or junior college and pursuing a degree in the agricultural field.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Applicant must be a graduate of any Dickinson County high school or Dickinson County homeschool who has completed their freshman year at a university or junior college and is pursuing a degree in agriculture. (Prior applicants and recipients may reapply.)
- Applicants must have earned at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA during their freshman year.

This scholarship is intended for graduating seniors or previous graduates of Chapman High School, Dickinson County, Kansas, who are from a family with an active farm business* and who intend to engage in that business as their full-time career following higher education. Previous recipients may re-apply through the competitive selection process.
*For the purposes of this scholarship, a family farm or farm corporation is defined as real property or a corporation owned by members of the immediate family and used for the production of agricultural products for commercial purposes. Such farms and corporations must devote 75 percent or more of their assets to the business of agriculture.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Applicant must have earned at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA.2.
- Applicant must be from a family with an active farm business or farm corporation* owned by members of his/her immediate family and intend to engage in that business as his/her full-time career following college.

Scholarship Requirements:

This scholarship is intended to assist a graduating senior or previous graduate of Abilene High School, Chapman High School, or Solomon High School or someone that is currently working in the medical field in Dickinson County and is pursuing higher-level education toward a career in the nursing or health care fields.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Applicant must be either (1) a graduating senior or graduate of Abilene High School, Chapman High School, or Solomon High School in Kansas; or (2) someone who is currently working in the medical field in Dickinson County, Kansas.
- Applicant must attend an accredited four-year college, community college, or vocational school where licensure or a degree in the field of nursing /health care.
- Applicant must have earned at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- The primary consideration is given to students pursuing a degree in the nursing field, with secondary to students seeking a degree in a health care field.
- Preference is given to students who have had life experience with cancer within their immediate family.

This Scholarship is intended to benefit current graduates of a Dickinson County High School or Home School or a non-traditional student who has received his/her GED within the last two years or has workplace experience equivalent to 2-5 years. Applicants must attend a Technical College/Trade school in Kansas. Financial need will be given priority.

Scholarship Overview:
This scholarship is intended for graduating seniors or previous graduates of Dickinson County High Schools, or GED recipients with ties to Dickinson County, who seek higher education for a trade that relates to or finds applications in the business of agriculture. Preference is given to students studying welding technology.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Applicants must plan to attend a trade or vocational/technical school to obtain a degree or license in a field related to agriculture. Preference is given to students studying welding technology. There is no minimum GPA requirement to apply for this award.
- Statement of 200-300 words 1) outlining your financial needs as they relate to your education, and 2) describing your career goals, including the job or occupation you want to be involved in and how you plan to achieve this goal (education, training, experience, financial support).

Woodrow and Esther Tyrell Scholarship
This scholarship, based upon financial need, has the potential of being a $16,000 award. $2,000 per semester. A maximum of $16,000, awarded based upon qualification, will be eight (8) successive $2,000 scholarships. Considerations for this scholarship are a financial need and demonstrated community/service.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Applicant must be a graduating senior of a Dickinson County, Kansas high school.
- Applicant must have earned at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
- Applicant must attend a Kansas four-year accredited college or university.
- Statement of (1) why you are making an application for this scholarship and what your plans for a college education; (2) provide detail concerning your financial circumstances and your needs for scholarship assistance; and (3) provide detail about your community service and what you have done to give back to your community.

Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities Scholarships
These scholarships are available only to graduating seniors of non-instructional support staff who wish to continue their education at the college level or technical school. The students must be residents of Kansas, graduate from a Kansas high school and plan to attend a Kansas College or technical school. Only children whose parent or legal guardian is actively employed in a K-12 or secondary education institution and engaged in a buildings and grounds, food service or transportation position shall be eligible for these scholarships.

The applicant must be the son or daughter of a veteran; the parent(s) must have been a member of the Kansas American Legion and/or Legion Auxiliary for the past three years. - Scouting, on all levels, has always been an important Legion program. Kansas Legion Posts sponsor some fifty-five Scout Troops and Explorer Posts, with expenditures in excess of $10,540, involving over 835 scouts. However, many more scouts benefit annually from The American Legion through direct and indirect aid and leadership that are unreported.
- The American Legion Life Insurance Trust Fund provides for an $10,000 National Scholarship to be awarded to the Eagle Scout who is selected “The American Legion Scout of the Year”. The individual selected will be named by the National Americanism Commission during the annual National Spring Meetings. Three runner-up scholarships, at $2,500 each have been added to the scholarship awards. The Department of Kansas also gives a $500 scholarship to the Kansas Scout of the Year.
- The scholarship may be used to attend a school selected by the student, providing it is state-accredited, above the high school level, and within the continental limits of the United States, except in the case where the student may be from a possession of the United States, in which case he can select a school in that possession or in the Continental United States.

Application Process
The general application opens on January 1 and closes on February 19, with the scholarship awarded the following fall semester. All qualified candidates will be interviewed in person or through video conference. Ellis staff will contact you directly to establish a date and time. Washburn University Leadership Institute Scholarship

Accepting a leadership scholarship commits a student to participate in Washburn University’s Leadership Institute and is more than award-based scholarship. Annual renewal of a leadership scholarship is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, making appropriate annual progress toward the Leadership Studies Minor or Certificate, and meeting performance and program participation criteria as determined by the Director of the Leadership Institute.
