Music


Band

Grades:
9-12

 

During the first semester, the band serves as the Fighting Irish Marching Band appearing at all home Varsity football games. In addition, they attend several parades (such as the Labor Day parade in Chapman). They attend Central States Marching Festival at KSU. The band also plays at home Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball games. The Concert Band appears at The Holiday Concert, Winter Band Concert, Band Night, FFA BBQ Concert and Commencement. The CHS Concert Band performs annually at State Large Group Contest. The CHS Jazz Band is selected from students in the Concert Band and performs two concerts during the second semester: The Jazz Jam Concert, and Popcorn and Jazz Concert. Other opportunities that individual students can participate in may include: District and State Band Tryouts, Solo and Ensemble Contest, KSU Concert Band Clinic, NCKL League Band, State and International Lion's Band, and John Philip Sousa Honor Band. This year the band is performing at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN over the New Year's holiday.

Women's Chorale

Grades:
9-10

 

The Women's Chorale is taught by Ms. Wheeler. The group consists of freshman and sophomore girls. The choir meets daily for one hour. The choir is a year long commitment. The course content includes the basic elements of good singing and the study of music reading. In the second semester, students are introduced to the American Musical through a study and chorale performance of one musical. Members of the chorale are required to perform on the Fall Chorale Concert, Annual Vespers Program in December, the Spring Chorale Concert and any other performances programmed by the director. Other performances that vary from year to year include: local concerts for district elementary and middle schools, community concerts and State Large Group Festival.


Men's Chorale

Grades:
9-10

The Men's Chorale is taught by Ms. Wheeler. It is a year long course that freshman and sophomore males can participate in. This course includes learning the basic elements of singing and reading music. They study one American musical a year. The chorale performs in the Fall Chorale Concert, Vespers Program, and the Spring Chorale Concert. Attendance and participation in these concerts is a requirement of the class.

Concert Choir

Grades:
11-12

The Concert Choir is taught by Ms. Wheeler one hour a day. The Concert Choir is open to junior and senior students if you have been in another choir class or by audition. This group performs a representative group of standard choral literature for mixed voices of the major musical styles. Students experience music of many different types and styles through both performance and listening. This ensemble seeks to maintain a high standard of performance. The Select Ensemble is selected out of Concert Choir. Concert Choir performs in the Fall Choral Concert, Vespers Program, and the Spring Choral Concert. Attendance and participation in these concerts is a requirement of the class. In the latter half of the second semester, Seniors work to prepare their annual Class Night production.
