National Honor Society is an organization created to recognize and foster academic achievement along with developing other characteristics of character, service, scholarship, and leadership. The Chapman High School Chapter of National Honor Society was established in 1988.
The Chapman National Honor Society is a very active group that meets monthly to plan and organize service activities for the year. The focus of NHS to promote the importance of life-long service and giving back to the community. Members are required to complete 10 hours of community service outside of the school day and serve as tutors in Irish Hub.
NHS members are required to actively participate in our group service project by tutoring in Irish Hub during advisory, attend monthly chapter meetings, complete community service outside of school (10 hours each semester), take required coursework. and continue to maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA. High School students are able to be inducted into NHS after their sophomore year of high school based upon their GPA, classes taken and enrolled in their Junior Year, and character/positive school involvement.
An active member of the National Honor Society must have taken three credit hours of the following classes by the end of their Junior Year: Advanced Math 3A(1), Anatomy and Physiology(1), Chemistry(1), Advanced English 3A(1), Spanish(1) – may count only one year, Physics(1), Math 4 (1), College Psychology(½), Calculus(1), College Algebra(½), and College Speech(½). College Human Growth & Development (½), College Computer Apps(½), College Biology(½), College History I(½), College US History II(½), CNA (½)
Salina Tech Provision – Juniors who qualify on GPA but choose to attend Salina Tech can still be inducted into NHS if they acquire 2 points by the end of their Junior year and 1 point their senior year.
